2018 Submissions

Submissions for our 2018 program now open.
Deadline – 5pm Sunday 4 June 2017.
Email all submissions to venue505@mac.com.

The Old 505 Theatre are currently seeking expressions of interest from both established and emerging individual artists / companies / collectives to present works for our 2018 program. The Old 505 Theatre curates a varied annual program of theatre work, including:

  • FreshWorks - one week spots for experimental work or works in progress
  • MainStage - two week seasons of fully realised scripted or devised work
  • ArtistsProjects - in 2018 there will again be three concurrent programs: Playwrights in Residence; Artists in the Audience; and Small Stage Chatter..

How does it work?

The Old 505 Theatre has a set number of dates throughout the year for various programs / initiatives. The existing framework will help guide which submissions are suitable (in addition to the criteria below). However we will retain some flexibility in programming, so we are also open to alternate uses of the space where it will support a project of high artistic merit. You should also continue to speak with us outside of the annual deadline timeframe if you think you have a project that suits the venue.

The venue works on the “box office split” model, with an initial commitment from resident artists to secure the spot (if offered). We aim to keep the overheads as low as possible for participating artists. The theatre is licensed for 70 people with fixed seating for 65, so take this into consideration when submitting.

If we are interested in your submission we may ask for more information, for an opportunity to meet and discuss it further, or may offer you one of the available spots in the season.

We aim to support a range of work, from scripted to devised works at all stages of a development process, the submission format will depend on what it is you’re suggesting to us.

What should you supply?

At a minimum, send us:

  • A summary of the project and the company / collective / individual artist
  • Preferred dates and type of opportunity (if known – e.g. FreshWorks, main season etc)
  • For scripted work, a copy of the script
  • For devised work, an outline of the concept and the devising process
  • Names and brief bios of confirmed participants

Optional submission elements include:

  • Reviews of this or other works by same artist/s
  • Photos or videos of this or other works by same artist/s

Email all submissions to venue505@mac.com.

How are works selected?

Works selected for the 2018 season will:

  • Be of high artistic merit / potential
  • Fit one of the venue's existing programs
  • Be suited to the venue (if you have not seen the venue before, please make time to do so before you submit something)

All submissions will be assessed by the venue Director (Kerri Glasscock) and Associate Artistic Director (Gareth Boylan). All applicants will be advised during June 2017.
